EEx    An electric apparatus witch have to use in explosive atmosphere, have to be equipped with a marking according to Standard EN 50014, as example  type: EEx m IIT4,with following meaning:EEx

 STANDARD IDENTIFICATION
This symbol means that electric equipment satisfy one many type of protections with european rules according to Standard EN50015 and EN 50028.Q
m

TYPE OF PROTECTION
This symbol identifies protection type of apparatus;different type of protectionare following:

d: box explosion proof (EN50018)

e: safety raised (EN50019)

i: intrinsic safety "ia" "ib" (EN50020)

m: encapsulation (EN50028)

o: Oil immersion (EN50015)

p: Pressure (EN50016)

q: dust -proof (EN50017)

II

 GROUPS OF APPARATUS

This apparatus identifies groups of apparatus, divided as following:

I: Electric apparatus to use in mines where it is risk of fire;

II Electric apparatus to use in places with explosive atmosphere, different by mines
NOTE:
in respect protection type "d" and "i",the group II is subdivided in IIA,IIB, AND IIC.For example protection type "d" and "i" are respectively subdivided according to MESG( Maximun Experimental safe gap)and MIC (Minimum Igniting Current)

Type of protection "d" included in class IIB,can be related with symbol fixed for a specific gas mixture of group IIC,for example H2(hydrogen).in this case certify of compiance will be:EEx d IIB + H2

CLASS OF TEMPERATURE

This symbol identifies class of temperature,as following:

Class of temperature are founded on highest superficial temperature reched on the whole surface or part of electric apparatus working in worst contitions and to be probably reason of ignition of explovive atmosphere.see following diagram.

Refers to an electric apparatus whose part potentially explosive are closed in an explosion-proof container.

This box will be resist to pressure caused by explosion of a explosive mixture, and it must to avoid that explosin it exend to explosive atmosphere of environment.

Refers to electric apparatus whose  potentially explosive parts are contained in a explosion-proof container.

This box will be resist to pressure created by explosion in its internal area of a explosive mixture, and must to avoid that the explosion exend itself  to explosive atmosphere of environment.

"e"

not

yes

yes

Refers to electric apparatus with an high safety coefficient.this apparatus never reaches overly high temperature, and in normal use conditions it can not develop neither internally nor externally sparks and  arc.

"i"

"ia"

yes

yes

yes

Refers to circuits wherein sparks or high temperature,if created in conditions specified by standard rules (normal or alternative operational conditions),can not generate lighting of explosive atmosphere.

"ib"

yes

yes

"m"

not

yes

yes

Refers to a special insulating wherein parts of electric apparatus, that can be generate the lighting of explosive atmosphere with a spark or for a warming, are incapsulated in a mixture in order to protect explosive atmosphere.

"o"

Refers to electric apparatus dipped in oil.

"p"

Pressurizazion is mantained against atmosphere by means of an inert gas.

"q"

refers to container filled with dust.
